Program 3.8.15: Upper Arlington Municipal Building, Art-O-Mat, Arnold Sports Festival 2015, North Market {Little Eater, Best of the Wurst}, We are on Instagram, Preview of Next Week {Columbus Landmarks Foundation Tour}

Story:

Friday: A quick trip in to the Upper Arlington Municipal Building became an adventure. While there appreciating the art of Middle School children, including my daughter's, I found an interesting business card for Art-O-Mat! Art-O-Mat is a fantastic concept: retired cigarette vending machines are refreshed and repurposed to sell original artwork. For a $5 token (available at the Parks & Rec office) you can take home an original piece of art.  Also, the Municipal Building itself is beautiful. 

Saturday: Burke and I decided to get an early start to the Arnold Sports Festival 2015! We were parking at about 8am, and we were sure we would get there before many other ticket holders. Wrong! The Arnold is well attended. Safe to say. About an hour was spent in the exhibit hall at the Convention Center, a little more time resting our feet watching gymnasts. We stopped by the Homage booth and Elliot shared with us the history of how Homage became 'Homage.' I appreciate stories of hobbies and passions becoming something bigger than ever imagined. Reflecting on this week's show, it seems the theme revolves around success created from one's passion, whether it is a passion for vintage t-shirts, delicious and fresh food, or a strong body.

For lunch, we walked a block to the North Market. Burke ordered a Chicago style hotdog at Best of the Wurst. It was a meaty and filling hotdog he could have eaten with a fork and knife! I had a sandwich and salad scoop at Little Eater. Little Eater is a recent addition to the North Market, featuring dishes prepared from locally-sourced vegetables. My plate was colorful, fresh and flavorful! The short walk back to the Convention Center made the North Market an easy choice for lunch.

From the Convention center, Burke and I caught the shuttle which took us to the Ohio State Fairgrounds. Our destination was the Rhodes Center to watch the Powerlifters compete! Honestly, I know nothing about powerlifting. Now, I know I love watching and being a part of that energy. I cannot go many places and hear my kind of music (well, except that one time Kroger was playing Metallica, a bizarre moment), but at the powerlifting meet, the music was super-familiar to me. Burke and I cheered for every competitor and we were disappointed right along with them whenever there was a lift which was judged 'no good.' These are some truly inspirational athletes!

Wrapping up the podcast, Burke and I mentioned we may take a bus tour with the Columbus Landmarks Foundation next weekend. They have two tours coming up in the next two weeks.
