Saturday: A beautiful day in Columbus! Burke, Allison and I drove to just east of downtown to Olde Towne East. Yellow Brick Pizza was our destination. We parked easily along the street and went right in. The greetings were friendly and we were immediately seated. This was the first time we have visited Yellow Brick Pizza and what a menu! Allison and I split a medium pizza. Medium and large pizzas can be halved, so we were able to have our pizza to our liking. Burke ordered his own Garbage Pizza. While we waited for our pizzas, we enjoyed looking at the artwork. Bobby, the owner, spoke with us and shared the history of Yellow Brick Pizza. Asking about him, we find out and he is an artist. How fantastic to have a business where you can also create and display your own art? Bobby shared with us there will be a patio open in the warmer weather and Burke checked it out. The pizzas arrived and were delicious. We cannot wait to go back to Yellow Brick Pizza, hopefully it will be warmer and we can sit on the patio under the beautiful lights, hand blown from beer bottles! Take a trip to Olde Towne East and get a bite, and some drinks, at Yellow Brick Pizza!
From there, we traveled only a few miles east to Bexley. Our friend, Paul, suggested we check out his friend's new shop she co-owns with three of her friends. Kelly, along with Becky, Aimee & Jen, opened Urban Emporium only a few weeks ago. These four artists created Urban Emporium with the goal of offering earth-friendly, locally produced, handcrafted goods. On Saturday, Jen and Aimee were in the shop, while Kelly and Becky were at a fundraising event. Jen and Aimee showed us around the shop and we had a great time browsing through handmade t-shirts, scarves, jewelry, soaps, art work...I could go on and on! Allison and I each purchased jewelry for ourselves, and I purchased something special for my friend's overdue baby! I cannot tell you what that something special is now, it would ruin her surprise! I have not been to Bexley since I was a young girl. Walking to and from the car was delightful, especially since the weather was beautiful. Head over to Urban Emporium, visit with Kelly, Becky, Aimee & Jen and learn all about the artful goods they sell.
Each of these five artists have found a way to be true to their art, true to themselves, and develop a local business for all of us to enjoy!
