Sunday we drove west to the National Museum of the US Air Force. If I were to list pros vs. cons with this experience, there would be no cons. Admission and parking are free. The museum is open 9am-5pm every day of the year except for Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. It is a wonderful way to surround yourself in history via the development of aviation. There is a lot to read, a lot to enjoy. You could take the family, a picnic (to eat outside in the Memorial Park) and make a big day of this museum!
We left the museum and headed a few miles east to Yellow Springs. There are a few things I wanted to experience and we did a couple of them. First, we ate Ye Olde Trail Tavern. Built in 1847, I believe the sign over our table said it is the oldest building in Yellow Springs! They are famous for their grilled cheese, and Burke and I each had one! Yummy! I cannot wait to go back. Next, we headed to Urban Hand Made on a quest to find Matt from 7THIRTY8 Apparel's friend Devin's artwork. Not There! Dang! Last stop at Yellow Springs was Glen Helen Nature Preserve. Glen Helen started as land donated to Antioch College from an alumnus in 1929. Since then, Glen Helen has grown to 1000 acres and is supported by private individuals through the Glen Helen Association. Please note, there is a $2 honor system parking fee. This is a beautiful area and I cannot wait to go back and spend more time!
We recently connected with Kara at CD 102.5 The Alternative Station. Burke and I have a tremendous interest in CD 102.5 as they are an independent radio station (think of Weiland's Market being an independent grocer, this is the same concept, however in a radio station format), and we are all about connecting you to local and independent sources. Kara suggested we attend the Big Room event today to see The Maccabees perform, have lunch at the Big Room Bar and then interview both her and Antonio to find out more about the station. Fabulous! We loved The Maccabees (and I realized I enjoy live music!) and plan to purchase their new album Marks to Prove It. How exciting to meet The Maccabees and get our picture taken! Lunch was at the Big Room Bar, and we were not disappointed! Burke had the Brat Pack (fries smothered in bratwurst dip), and I had a Jane's Addiction sandwich (turkey breast, field greens, tomato, avocado basil spread) and fries. All yummy!
